The ESV Study Bible is MINE!!!

Posted in Books by Jono Smith on October 20, 2008

Thanks to the fact that my boss is a contributor to the ESV Study Bible (he wrote the Deuteronomy notes) I have, what must be one of the first, ESVSB’s in Australia.
Normally I wouldn’t outlay the serious money that it cost me to get the GENUINE LEATHER edition, but I figure it’s a family heirloom worth investing in.
The hype is justified. This is a very good publication. Detailed review coming soon…

John Piper on my iPhone…

Posted in Books by Jono Smith on October 16, 2008

I just jumped over to desiringGod.org to check out a blog post called: “Don’t Waste Your Life on Your iPhone”.

I thought I’d receive a good and timely rebuke from Piper about the amount of time I’ve spent messing around on my new gadget – instead I found a link where I could download his book “Don’t Waste Your Life” on my iPhone…
So no rebuke from JP this time, just a free, iPhone freindly version of a brilliant book for my new toy.
Nice.

Acts 29 on its way to Oz?

Posted in Church/Church Planting by Jono Smith on October 16, 2008

Mark Driscoll has announced over at theResurgence.com that he is committed to returning to Australia to continue the work that he began in Sydney earlier this year. In his words:

“God gave me a deep heart for the country, a deep love for the churches, and a deep passion to return to learn and serve some more.”

In my opinion, Mark Driscoll is exactly what the church in Australia needs. I believe God can use this man powerfully to (re)ignite a passion in Australian Christians for evangelism and church planting.

“[We're] working out the details of a return trip to evaluate church planters and to see if we can be of assistance to some major denominations while also helping independent church planters.

It is a big task and we can use a lot of prayer for wisdom on how to organize a version of Acts 29 in Australia and when to return to kick it off. For my Aussie posse, stay tuned, because I’ll be back . . .”
